Less than an hour after I arrived in Austernell, I found myself in the middle of a violent protest and stumbled upon a man fighting for his life against a masked assailant. Without any idea who he was, I fought off the masked man and rescued the gentleman. The man in question was charming, handsome, and profoundly grateful for my help. It didn’t take more than a second glance to determine that he was both cultured and wealthy, but I would have saved him even if he were neither. Little did I know that this man would pursue me relentlessly, sparing no expense to prove his gratitude. No matter what I needed, he found a way to provide it. At first, his charity seemed too generous for me to accept. The more I came to know him, the more I realized how little he cared about his money. He wished for something else, something that would give meaning to his life. What I didn’t know then was how much he would mean to me.
